NIXIE

Phoenix(Nixie)

Breed: Tennessee Walking Horse

Born: 2013

Favorite thing: Nixie loves scratches on her back end and her neck

Nixie was rescued from a kill pen in Louisiana as a 3 year old. When she arrived she was very sick to the point where we didn’t think she would survive. While we don’t have specifics on her background, when we rescued her the weighted shoes she had on her hooves indicate she was likely planned to be trained for “Big Lick” in the south. Nixie is now our resident greeter, and she is used primarily in our mental health therapy program. Nixie is the leader of her herd!

ECLIPSE

Breed: Gypsy Vanner

Born: 2004

Favorite thing: Clips loves his food and having his mane braided!

Eclipse, also known as “Clips”, came to The Legacy Ranch in 2019. Before we purchased Clips, he was used in a Dressage Lesson Program. In addition to Bo, Clips also was one of the first horses to go to our first Special Olympics! Clipse is a breed of horse that has feathers on his legs. Clipse is known for his mustache and long mane and tail!

BO

Breed: Tennessee Walking Horse

Born: 1996

Favorite thing: Bo loves hanging out with little kids!

Bo came to The Legacy Ranch in 2020 with his best buddy Deuce. Before Bo joined The Legacy Ranch herd, he was a mounted shooting horse and a trail horse. Bo is gaited and has the smoothest movement when being ridden! Bo is trained to respond to many different cues, including only hands and voice, so he is a first choice for participants who may have limited or no lower body movement. One of his biggest accomplishments was being one of our first horses to go to the Special Olympics! A fun fact about Bo is that he gets super fluffy in the winter time and looks like a big teddy bear!

AJAX

Ajax, aka Totally Controversary

Breed: American Paint Horse

Born: 1997

Favorite thing: Ajax loves belly scratches

In Ajax’s previously job, he was an Oklahoma cattle ranching horse. Ajax has been in parades and has done well in horse showing, but what he likes the most is teaching humans how to ride and communicate with a horse, making him a barn favorite at the ranch! He is a patient and intelligent horse and knows how to bow and tip toe! He loves to meet people of all ages especially if they show up with his favorite treat- Flax Snax! Lastly, we are proud to announce that Ajax is a 2022 Special Olympic Gold Medalist!

ZEUS

Breed: Paint Horse

Born: 2012

Favorite thing: Zeus loves to hang out with the minis when he is turned out next to them.

Zeus came to The Legacy Ranch in 2019. Before Zeus became a member of the Legacy herd, he was a trail horse for most of his life. When he came to the ranch, he had to learn how be ridden in an arena, as he was used to straight lines on the trails outside. Zeus has become one of the most dependable horses at the ranch and is definitely a favorite of all. He is another horse that went to our first year at the Special Olympics. Zeus communicates on such a phenomenal level with his human friends and takes standing at the ramp under the wheelchair lift very seriously in order to provide a safe mount for his riders! A fun fact about Zeus is he loves to run. Before he is used in lessons, we let him loose in the arena where he runs around and plays. It is really fun to watch!

FINNLEE

Breed: Irish Sport Horse

Born: 2013

Favorite thing: Playing with Rori and scratches on her chest

Finnlee came to the ranch in 2021. Before she came to the ranch, she was a hunter jumper, trail and lesson horse. She has participated in Special Olympics for the past two years with our team. Finnlee loves being spoiled and going to horse shows!

TATER

Breed: Quarter Horse

Born: 2011

Favorite thing: Neck scratches

Tater came to the Legacy Ranch in 2018. Before he became a part of the Legacy herd, he was training to be a barrel racing horse and he lived with chickens and turkeys! Tater joins our team as we visit participants around the community at camps and special recreation events! He takes extra special care of his riders and has a special bond with them.

SHERMAN

Breed: Haflinger

Born: 2005

Favorite thing: Sherman loves treats!

Sherman joined the Legacy herd in 2020. Prior to becoming a therapy horse, Sherman “The Tank” was used as a personal riding horse. He has been a part of our Special Olympics team for the past two years! Sherman is a go-to horse for first time riders, as he has a slow and steady gait, and will never second guess himself or his rider!

SONNY

Breed: Haflinger

Born: 2007

Favorite thing: His best friend Tater and playing in the mud!

Sonny joined our herd in 2020. He was a well-loved trail horse prior to joining our family. His owner was injured and unable to ride so we offered to provide him a working home. Sonny LOVES to jump over obstacles that are set up in the arena. He has so much energy and enjoys having a busy schedule to keep his mind working! Sonny prefers to have a faster gait; however, he is able to adjust his movements to work with any level riders who works with him

MEADOW

Breed: American Quarter Horse

Born: 2012

Favorite thing: Neck scratches and visiting with the mini horses

Meadow came to the ranch in 2020 with Indie. Meadow’s background remains a mystery. However, she has very good bloodlines in the Quarter Horse industry as she is a decendant of Hollywood Dun It. Meadow also blessed us with a special surprise that we didn't know about when we picked her up; she was pregnant! Her baby, Aurora “Rori”, was welcomed into the world in 2020. Meadow may present herself as a shy horse but once she gets to know you she opens up and has all the love to give.

WILLOW

Breed: Belgian Warmblood

Born: 2013

Favorite thing: Willow loves treats

Willow came to the ranch in 2021. Willow came from a difficult background. We rescued her from a situation where she was stuck in a tiny stall that was never cleaned. She also was rarely given food and water. She has also had two foals throughout her lifetime. When Willow came to us, she was given plenty of food, water and love in order for her to gain weight and become healthy again. She is now healthy and happy! She is currently in therapy horse training and will be able to be in lessons soon!

COWGIRL

Breed: American Quarter Horse

Born: 2006

Favorite thing: She enjoys running fast and massages

Cowgirl came to the ranch in 2020. Before she was under our ownership, she was in training to be a reining horse. Cowgirl has a sharp mind and she is incredibly intelligent. She is entirely voice and seat trained. When Cowgirl feels a connection with a human, she follows them around like a puppy.

INDIE

Breed: Spotted Saddle Horse

Born: 2014

Favorite thing: Getting finger painted and traveling to schools to visit kids!

Indie came to the ranch with Meadow in 2020. We don't know much about Indie’s background. She was very sick when she came to us. She had a respiratory infection and it was our mission to heal her so she could be happy and healthy again! Like Bo, she is also gaited. Therefore, he has a very smooth trot and canter. Indie has been a go to horse for large events that require a lot of people around her. Nothing phases her on the ground as she's been around firetrucks while their sirens were going off for Touch-a-Truck events and parades. She also loves being painted and decorated by kids and adults during birthday parties.

RORI

Breed: Quarter Horse

Born: 2020

Favorite thing: Snuggles

Background: Aurora, aka Rori, was the only horse that was born on The Legacy Ranch! Her mom is Meadow. Rori is a curious and loving horse. She adores humans and all animals that come her way. Her herd is raising her to be a polite and respectful horse! She is a future Legacy therapy horse in training!

DEUCE

Breed: Quarter Horse

Born: 2006

Favorite thing: Getting dirty! and pulling hats off of his humans!

Background: Deuce came to the ranch with his best friend Bo in 2020. Before Deuce became a member of our team, he was a trail horse and a roping horse. Something interesting about Deuce is that he is considered grey horse. However, when he was a baby he was a Buckskin. His name is Deuce because he was two-toned when he was a baby and has turned grey over his lifetime! Deuce has become a favorite of many here at the ranch with his silly personality. He is most known for unzipping jackets.

LOLLY

Breed: Chestnut Pinto American Miniature horse

Born: 2018

Favorite thing: Being groomed

Lolly had been trained under the Pet Partner guidelines, but due to Covid has not had the opportunity to test.  She has, however, been to schools and nursing homes and summer camps to visit and bring joy to people.

Lolly loves to dress up and show off her costumes (unicorn, reindeer antlers, etc.) and likes to go on walks.  Her favorite past time is to be brushed and groomed so she looks her best.  She is always curious and interested in what is going on around her. She loves Zeus who is her turnout neighbor.

CALLY

Breed: Falabella

Born 2018:

Favorite thing: Being a party host!

Cally’s barn name came from combining the names of three horses we lost before she came to us.  She is a full Falabella.  Cally had been trained under the Pet Partner guidelines, but due to Covid has not had the opportunity to test.  She has, however, been to schools and nursing homes and summer camps to visit and bring joy to people.

Cally participated in the 4H show during Covid and came in 2nd in halter.  She is the “diva” of the mini group and demands attention.  She loves to meet new people and greets everyone she meets as a new friend.  Cally has such a positive attitude on life that she is happy to share with all who meet her.
